- Q. How much does the HomeSchool Gym
charge for a session?
A. The cost for a session is dependent
upon what type of class (i.e. preparation time, equipment required etc.)
Another factor that may have an effect is whether or not a cost for space
rental is required. Other considerations may be number of children as
well as length of classes. These questions can be answered by contacting us.
- Q. How long is each class in a session?
A. The HomeSchool Gym observes
'professional' hours. This means that for every hour of class there is
a 5 minute preparation time at the beginning and a 5 minute cleanup time
at the end of each class. However, it may be necessary to extend a class
time in certain circumstances. If this is necessary please contact us with these specific inquiries.
- Q. Where will the classes take place?
A. If your church group or
homeschool cooperative has access to a gymnasium or park we will play
there. We can also rent certain public space in your area for a nominal
fee, which will be added to the class fee. Therefore, it would be best
to find a reasonable or free space in your area in which to conduct the
activities. We also conduct a number of classes at various recreation
centers in Central Ohio. Click here to see if a class is being held near
you.
- Q. Are the age ranges for your classes
strict?
A. No, the instructor is able
to modify games and classes to accommodate a wide variety of age ranges
and skill levels.
- Q. How many students do you need
for a class?
A. For most of the activities
that we offer we require a minimum of 10 students in each age group.
We don't have a strict maximum number, however, if an extremely large
number were reached it would be necessary to conduct two separate classes.
- Q. My son/daughter(s) is/are not
competitive. What do you do to get the most reluctant children involved
in your classes?
A. We do understand that even
with children of the exact same age there is a wide variety of skill
level, comfort level and physicality. Therefore, it is our mission to
treat each child on her/his own terms while in the class. Each of the
classes in the HomeSchool Gym curriculum is designed for maximum participation.
- Q. There are many choices of activities.
What about combining classes for a variety throughout a session?
A. We are understanding of
the fact that parents and children would enjoy a variety of activities.
With this in mind we are flexible and can combine classes like Flag Football
and Ultimate Frisbee for two shorter sessions. However, we also feel
that a minimum of time is needed to properly teach rules, techniques
and game play of certain activities. Simply contact The HomeSchool Gym's
instructor/s to discuss these possibilities.
- Q. What is the 'Games Approach' to
teaching Physical Education?
A. The Games Approach is widely
used in Physical Education. This approach uses small sided games and
game-like drills in order to teach the fundamental skills of a sport.
- Q. Will you add classes to your curriculum?
A. Yes. We at the HomeSchool
Gym never stop learning. Therefore, we are always on the lookout for
new and exciting ways to expand our services to satisfy the needs and
wants of our clientele. If you would like to make a suggestion simply
